by Martin Gilbert (Author)

The definitive account of the Holocaust, from Hitler's ascent to power to the defeat of the Nazis in 1945.

"A fascinating work that overwhelms us with its truth . . . This book must be read and reread."
--Elie Wiesel, Chicago Tribune

Deftly weaving together historical research, eyewitness accounts, and survivors' testimonies, The Holocaust is Gilbert's acclaimed history of the European Jews during World War II. His narrative covers the origins of European anti-Semitism and tracks the systematic brutality of Hitler's "Final Solution" in unflinching detail. Gilbert also chronicles Jewish resistance efforts and the sacrifices of those who risked their lives to provide Jews with aid and shelter.
